After spending time working in Hampel’s basement on a batch of songs he had written, the duo emerged in 2010 for a show as Gold Circle, which only convinced them that they needed new accomplices to do the new material justice.

Elliott first brought on bassist Phillip Kim, a member of Andrew Graham & Swarming Branch that he collaborated with at the annual Columbus Rock Potluck. Needing a drummer, Kevin’s brother Adam was an obvious choice, especially since his Times New Viking was taking a breather after touring and releasing records nonstop for seven years. With a name chosen and a set of songs coming to fruition, there was still something missing. El Jesus de Magico guitarist Dave Capaldi turned out to be that something. Wasting no time, the band entered Columbus Discount Recording on May 26 (Stevie Nicks’ birthday), 2012 and recorded their debut album, Private Airplane, in one day. They’ve subsequently hit the ground running, recording and releasing a second (Body Language) and third album (Into Sixes), playing opening slots on tour dates for The Breeders and Ex-Hex, and receiving rave reviews from the likes of Pitchfork, Stereogum, and The Onion AV Club.
