Why do it once when you can do it twice? The Whiles host a release weekend in Columbus this weekend, April 30 & May 1. Two nights of great new songs off Colors of the Year and special guests. They're also in-store Sunday, May 2 at Used Kids. More big shows being lined up including an opening slot for My Morning Jacket in June. Golden!
California Dreamin: Folks on the left coast can catch Moviola and the Catalpa Boys for the first time ever, for two shows. May 30 at 12 Galaxies and May 31 at the Hotel Utah, both in San Francisco.
Magnet likes East of Eager, you will, too. Purchase now directly from us, Midheaven, Miles of Music, or Amazon.
We're pleased to announce later this spring we'll be releasing the excellent final album by Log, entitled Log Almighty. Their swan song is a fully-realized humdinger. Think Feelies, The Clean, and a stockpile of great songs from main man Paul Nini.
Appalachian Death Ride's latest, Hobo's Codebook, is still (a full year after release) being discovered by folks near and far as one of the best rock albums of the year. Think Mekons, Ukranian folk music, and Das Damen. It's also now available in the store.

Moviola emerge from a two-year hibernation in their self-built studio behind the plasma center with their sixth and easily best record, East of Eager. They've come about as far as you can come from their days as a ragged, lo-fi quartet "Neil Young's noisy nephews" – AP. These days, they're decidedly hi-fidelity, and East of Eager is a gorgeous, sparse, and soulful record (we're reminded of an updated Muswell Hillbillies or Phases and Stages). With five songwriters and singers in one band—they've created an understated, instant classic.

The Whiles. Hailing from the heart of the Midwest, the Whiles (formerly known as Mrs. Children) have recorded a stunning debut, especially for a band barely past legal age. Colors of the Year touches on the gentler side of love and longing, with a wonderful three-part harmonies and distant echoes of Nick Drake, Zombies and Eric Anderson to new/old fangled sounds such as Belle and Sebastian, Ron Sexsmith and The Smiths, but as all talented bands they don't wear their influences on their sleeve—they mesh them into their own wonderful noise. Sit back and listen to another voice of the Y generation, no props, no gimmicks, and no screams—just the simple ache of longing.

The Catalpa Boys are brothers J.D. (Moviola) and J.K. Housh (Our Lady of the Highway, Nickel Beer Riot). Even though they live on opposite ends of the country, they got together long enough to record an album of songs. Their self-titled debut is gorgeous, stripped down country-soul, following in the fine tradition of family bands (Louvin, Carter, Delmore), blending their voices and unique talents together for an album of endless bright spots. Touring this spring and summer near you.
